In this guide, we explore the best treatments available for women 40+ in Exeter, focusing on natural results from a my trusted, award-nominated clinic, Exthetics.

What Anti Ageing Treatments are Available?

Anti ageing treatments include various cosmetic procedures. These procedures aim to reduce lines and wrinkles. They also help restore skin elasticity and soften the signs of aging. Treatments can include:

  • Muscle-relaxing injections (like Botox)
  • Collagen-boosting injectables (like Profhilo, Polynucleotides, or Sculptra)
  • Skin-resurfacing treatments (such as RF microneedling or chemical peels)
  • Dermal fillers to restore lost volume

Each is used to treat different types of lines and wrinkles, depending on their cause (muscle movement vs skin thinning).

Why Skin Over 40 Needs a Different Approach

In your 40s, several changes accelerate the ageing process:

  • Collagen and elastin decline more rapidly
  • The skin’s ability to repair slows down
  • Fat pads begin to shift or deplete
  • Hormonal changes (like menopause) affect tone and hydration

Treatments need to be personalised – not just anti-wrinkle, but pro-skin health, especially for long-term natural results.

The Best Anti Ageing Treatments for Women Over 40

Let’s break down the top options offered at Exthetics Exeter, and why they work so well for skin in your 40s.

1. Botulinum Toxin (Anti-Wrinkle Injections)

  • Best for: Crow’s feet, forehead lines, frown lines
  • How it works: Relaxes muscles that cause expression wrinkles
  • Benefits: Fast-acting, minimal downtime
  • Results last: 3–4 months
  • Side effects include: Minor bruising, temporary swelling

Botox is a reliable solution for facial wrinkles caused by muscle movement, with natural-looking results when used conservatively.

2. Profhilo & Profhilo Structura

  • Best for: Crepey, sagging or dehydrated skin
  • How it works: Stimulates collagen using high-purity hyaluronic acid
  • Benefits: Improves firmness, tone, and glow
  • Results last: Around 6 months
  • Great for: Entire face, neck, or décolletage

Profhilo works below the surface, without adding volume, ideal for women seeking a natural refresh.

3. Polynucleotides

  • Best for: Delicate under-eyes, pigmentation, early ageing signs
  • How it works: Biostimulation via DNA fragments to improve repair
  • Benefits: Gentle, regenerative, progressive improvements
  • Safe for: Sensitive or mature skin types

Polynucleotides are a game-changer for those not ready for fillers or wanting to improve skin quality naturally.

4. RF Microneedling

  • Best for: Fine lines, skin laxity, uneven texture
  • How it works: Combines microneedling + radiofrequency to stimulate collagen
  • Benefits: Improves structure by removing the outer layers and heating the dermis
  • Minimal downtime: Redness only 24–48 hours

RF Microneedling is ideal for women who want a non-injectable route to firmer, smoother skin.

5. Sculptra

  • Best for: Gradual mid-face volume loss and contour softening
  • How it works: Triggers collagen production
  • Benefits: Long-term restoration of support structures
  • Treatment plan: Usually 2–3 sessions over months

Think of Sculptra as “future-proofing” your face — with results that build slowly and naturally.

6. Dermal Fillers

  • Best for: Nasolabial folds, marionette lines, lip support
  • How it works: Adds volume beneath the skin
  • Results last: 6–18 months
  • Only needed: Where support has diminished

Placed with precision, fillers lift and restore without exaggerating, especially in combination with other wrinkle treatments.

What is the best anti ageing treatment?

The best anti-wrinkle treatment depends on your skin goals. For expression lines, Botox is most effective. For skin quality and hydration, Profhilo or polynucleotides are excellent. Many women benefit from a combination for full-face rejuvenation.

Botulinum toxin injections are most effective for dynamic lines (frown lines, crow’s feet), while RF microneedling or Sculptra is more effective for texture and sagging. Your practitioner will advise based on your medical history and desired results.

Not exactly. Botox is a type of anti-wrinkle treatment that relaxes muscles. But the term “anti-wrinkle” also includes chemical peels, laser treatment, dermal filler, skin resurfacing, and more. Botox treats dynamic wrinkles; others target skin quality or volume.

Typically, anti-wrinkle injections last 3 to 4 months. This varies based on metabolism, muscle activity, and lifestyle. Most clients return 3–4 times a year for top-ups to maintain results.

  1. Hiya, I’m visiting Exeter from Thurs morning to Mon evening to clear out my dad’s flat as he died last week. To cheer myself up (and because my under/around eye area has been looking awful with the tiredness and crying) I looked up eye treatments and came across yourselves. Since I’m only there for a short amount of time I won’t be able to have repeat sessions but I could get those from a centre near me. Is this possible? And what then would you recommend? I thought maybe tear trough fillers and microneedling. I don’t think I’d need much though as I have very thin skin and react to small amounts of things (I’m small built). Thanks!
